On 24 August 2008 the Beijing Olympic Games came to a close. The eyes of the world are now on London - and Newham - as hosts of the next summer Olympic Games. 208 residents ranging from new borns to pensioners from Newham attended the 2008 Caramel Rock fashion show which took place at The Hub in Canning Town on 13 December. London City Airport saw a 12 per cent rise in passenger numbers in 2008 with a record 3.3 million people travelling through the Docklands airport. In spite of the current economic and financial challenges, December still showed a 10 per cent growth in passengers on the previous year. The London Borough of Newham, in partnership with Transport for London, has unveiled a new service for its residents, visitors and businesses. They can now access all the council services they need, from being able to find jobs, to reporting graffiti, on their mobiles, through one simple mobile website.
