Newham Council organised the event to celebrate the park achieving the Green Flag status for the third year.

The prestigious award recognises and rewards the best green spaces in the country for outstanding parks management.

The flag was raised by executive member for culture, Councillor Jo Corbett. She was joined by lead community councillor for East Ham, Lakmini Shah, and ward councillors, Ian Corbett and Mary Skyers.

They were joined by the Friends of Central Park, who were signing up people to become more involved in the park.

Visitors also got down on their hands and knees to plant around 140 daffodil bulbs around the park. There were also opportunities to view displays of the park restoration work that is due to begin this winter.

Central Park joins Stratford and Forest Lane Parks in achieving the prestigious award. Stratford gained its status for the fifth year and Forest Lane for the ninth.

Councillor Jo Corbett said: "This was such an exciting way to celebrate the park getting its Green Flag. It was brilliant to see the crowd at the park to witness this occasion and join in the fun and shows how popular our green spaces and that they are an important part of community life.

"Achieving a Green Flag is testament to the hard work of staff and partner organisations who manage and maintain our parks to such an excellent standard, placing them among the nation's top parks."
