One of the schools which shone in the event was St Edwards Primary School from Upton Park in Newham. The children from St Edwards, some as young as seven, only had a matter of weeks in which to learn and practice their routine for the competition and yet they managed to attain second place in the ‘Show dance' discipline! - What an amazing achievement for St Edwards and I Love Salsa!
The teachers and children from St Edwards were so impressed with their experience that they are continuing with their Salsa and Latin dance classes in the autumn term in the hope that they might be able to achieve first place next year!
The Colours of the Rainbow competition is a culmination of the hard work that children have put in to their dance lessons throughout the year. It is a wonderful day of happy and healthy competition at which all the children receive a medal and many receive trophies for their schools.
I Love Salsa have been teaching Latin dance and fitness in schools as part of the PE curriculum for the past four years and have appeared on BBC Breakfast and in the Guardian Education Supplement.
