The Real Man Cycling Challenge aims to raise over a million pounds to help The Prostate Cancer Charity fight disease on every front through research, support, information and campaigning. Prostate cancer is now the most common cancer diagnosed in men in the UK - every hour at least one man dies from this disease.
John Neate, Chief Executive of The Prostate Cancer Charity, comments "This is a landmark event for The Prostate Cancer Charity. With the help of thousands of Real Men cyclists, we will push prostate cancer to the forefront. Our vision is to build an annual flagship event for men which will help promote a cause which for too long was massively neglected."
The event will be held on Sunday 14 September, 2000 cyclists, individuals and teams of 4 will take to the streets of London to raise awareness of prostate cancer. The 34 km route will start and finish at the Excel Centre, London; it will be one of very few charity sporting events completed largely by men and for men. Celebrities such as Neil Fox, Adrian Chiles, Mark Lawrenson and Graeme Le Saux will all be climbing on their bikes and hitting the streets of London in support of this superb event.
Partners of the Real Man Cycling Challenge include Barclays, BT, City AM, Adidas, Evans Cycles and British Cycling.
Simon Lillistone, British Cycling's Marketing & Communications Director comments "With interest in cycling on the increase, this event will be a showcase for cycling in the capital that will further accelerate this growth and inspire more people to try our fantastic sport. With events on the Everyday Cycling.com calendar for participants at all levels, cycling has never been more accessible"
