If you think primary school teaching could be the career for you, here's the chance to find out at first hand what it's like to be a primary school teacher in East London.

Teaching seminar to recruit male graduates, Tuesday, 18 November

Male residents are being targeted to train to become primary school teachers

Newham Council is working in partnership with Tower Hamlets Council and the University of Cumbria in offering a free, three day taster course starting on Tuesday, 18 November 2008.

The course is designed to provide information and advice about a career in education and will include a range of topics from the national curriculum to behaviour management, as well as routes into teaching and practical considerations such as training, pay, loans and finances.

This course is specially designed for male graduates who live in Newham or Tower Hamlets and are considering a career in teaching.

Applicants who reflect the diversity of the boroughs' schools are particularly welcome.

Executive member for children and young people, Councillor Quintin Peppiatt, said: "This course is a great opportunity for those thinking about a career in teaching. It will give an invaluable insight into what is involved in one of the most challenging but rewarding jobs available."

Those interested in attending must register their details with the teaching information line on 0845 6000 991.

Applications must be submitted by Monday, November 3.
