2012 Games and Jobs

The 2012 Games will be remembered not just for being a truly world class sporting spectacle, but also for providing long-lasting benefits to Newham residents.

Newham Council is working closely with the organisers of the London Games to ensure a legacy of improved and increased employment opportunities for local people.

They are also working with the other host boroughs (Greenwich, Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest) to provide bring high quality training and help local people be prepared for new job opportunities created by the 2012 Games.

Newham Workplace

Phasing of Job Requirements

Expected phasing of the job requirements for 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games:

Phase 1 - Job Requirements (2007 - 2011)

• Construction
• Cultural and creative
• Logistics (site services which deliver the following: security; traffic management; site registration, site management; delivery of goods and services)
• Rail Engineering
• Technical and specialist roles

Phase 2 during the Games (2011 - 2012)

• Administration
• Catering
• Interpreting and translating
• Referees
• Security Services
• Tourism, hospitality and event management
• Transport
• Volunteers (stewarding; meeting and greeting; crowd management)

Phase 3 after the Games (2012 and beyond)

• Business and finance
• Community Development
• Construction
• Industrial
• Public Sector (housing, police)
• Retail and leisure
• Sports and recreation
