On 24 August 2008 the Beijing Olympic Games came to a close. The eyes of the world are now on London - and Newham - as hosts of the next summer Olympic Games. With the Olympic spotlight now on London, Mayor Boris Johnson today (2 September) paid his first visit to east London since the Beijing Olympics and reviewed progress at Westfield's Stratford City development that will serve as the gateway to the Olympic Park and deliver a critical part of East London's Games legacy. The council's parks department has announced the winners of their amateur Park Life photo competition. The theme was chosen to show the best of Newham's parks, which are so plentiful that you're never more than a ten minute walk away from one. More > Park Life winners announced
