Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, and executive member for culture, Councillor Jo Corbett, opened the facility with Olympian Tessa Sanderson and Sport England's Senior Investment Manager, Adrian Hill.
The Mayor was joined by children from Rokeby School, Stratford and local sports clubs to test out the facilities.
Jointly funded by Newham Council, the London Development Agency and Sport England, the facility is part of a £15 million investment in leisure facilities and parks.
Eight different Olympic sports can be played at the unique all weather facility area including athletics, handball, basketball, badminton and football. It is the only one of its kind in the United Kingdom.
Sir Robin Wales said: "This is a fantastic free facility for everybody in the borough to use, regardless of their age or sporting ability. We witnessed an amazing Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing this summer and now we want to help the athletes of tomorrow reach their potential as well as seeing everyday residents getting more active."
The games area is free of charge and is designed to be used by all age groups regardless of level of ability.
An onsite notice board details scheduled activities for all.
