The UK wide campaign encourages families to leave their cars at home and walk to school to save the environment.
Walk to School Week coincides with Noise Action Week. To celebrate this, pupils will be encouraged to explore the local environment through sound while walking to school.
Schools have come up with new and innovative ways to celebrate the occasion.
Ranelagh Primary in West Ham is setting itself a pedometer challenge and holding a sound recording walking event.
Hartley Primary in East Ham will be performing a street theatre in their playground, including dancing, poetry, performances and props.
Cumberland School in Plaistow will be recording noises and producing music compositions and posters inspired by their discoveries.
Plaistow and Southern Road Primary are teaming up to hold a sponsored walk.
New City Primary are holding a jungle themed walkathon and school disco to raise funds for a new playground equipment.
All schools involved are entered into a competition to win an iPod docking station. Pupils can also design their own walking and noise related posters for the chance to win a hydration pack to keep refreshed on the walk to school.
Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales said: "I encourage all Newham's school children to take part in Walk to School Week. As well as the opportunity to win fabulous prizes the week will give everyone the chance to do something for the environment."
