Controlled parking comes to Stratford

Residents and businesses in Stratford should be experiencing less congestion and parking problems.
Trial period of four controlled parking zones in Stratford

Newham operates a system of 15 controlled parking zones (CPZs) to reduce traffic congestion and make parking more convenient for residents and businesses in the borough

In response to concerns by local people, Newham Council has introduced four controlled parking zones around Stratford.

The zones will be effective from 10am to 12 noon, Monday to Friday. They will be in place for a six-month trial period and will be reviewed afterwards.

The restricted parking areas are:

  • Maryland Road, Janson Road and Colegrave Road
  • Carnarvon Road, Warwick Road and Atherton Road
  • Whalebone Lane, Vicarage Road and Corporation Street
  • Bridge Road and Carpenters Road to the Olympic site.

Blue badge holders will be allowed to park in the permit bays.

Executive member for public realm and transport, Councillor Ian Corbett, said: "These new controlled parking zones are part of a pilot project to manage the parking issues we have in Stratford.

"We are really interested in hearing people's views on whether they think the scheme is working or what we should do to improve it. Your views are vital to making this work."

In March, the council wrote to 15,000 people asking for their views of what it is like to drive and park in and around Stratford. This was followed by an event, where local people took the opportunity to discuss the matter with ward councillors.

The council gathered the suggestions and in May, wrote to people and held events in and around Stratford to let the public know about the pilot scheme.

Last month, vehicles parked in the zones were issued with warning notices informing them of the changes.
