The London City Airport annual Fun Day, now in its 12th year, saw a record number of just over 22,000 visitors on Saturday 5 July. The event, hosted by the airport in aid of Richard House Children's Hospice, featured London's only air show and a host of activities for visitors of all ages.

Money raised on the day and through sponsorship is still being counted and the donation to Richard House will be announced soon

Fun Day was also host to London's only air show. An array of aircraft took to the skies to perform breathtaking stunts to the crowd's amazement. The world-famous DC-6 made its thrilling debut at London City Airport, making it the largest aircraft to ever land at the airport. On the ground, the Fun Day's major sponsor, British Airways, brought along a multitude of activities include very popular tours of a cockpit and the chance to meet celebrity Shane Richie who was there for the entirety of the event.

Richard Gooding OBE, London City Airport's chief executive, said: "what started out as a tea party in the terminal building for a few locals has now transformed into a fantastic festival of fun for over 22,000 people. The London City Airport Fun Day has become a major event in the Newham calendar and it's great that we are able to offer an amazing afternoon of fun and entertainment for the community each year plus raise money for Richard House in the process.

Peter Ellis, chief executive of Richard House Children Hospice said "London City Airport is a regular supporter of Richard House and the Fun Day is another way in which they raise vital funds for the hospice. We are grateful to London City Airport and the thousands of local community members who attended the Fun Day for their continued support"
