The Balfour Beatty London Youth Games 2009

Europe's largest youth sport event - The Balfour Beatty London Youth Games is based on the Olympic Games. Over 20,000 young Londoners from the 32 boroughs and the City of London compete in a number of different sports.
Call out to young competitors interested in taking part in the London Youth Games 2009

London Youth Games was inaugurated in 1977 as part of The Queen’s Silver Jubilee Celebrations. Now entering its 31st year, the Games provides competitive sporting opportunities for young Londoners representing the London Borough they live or school in

The games start with the cricket cup in February and finish with the finals weekend in July. The results from all the events are added together and the winners are the borough with the most points. The winning borough receives the Jubilee Trophy.

Successful athletes such as Linford Christie, John Regis and Steve Backley have all competed in the London Youth Games at some stage. If you would like to emulate these stars and represent Newham at the 2009 London Youth Games then read on.

Not only will you be representing Newham but you will be representing one of the host boroughs to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The 2012 Games are 3 years away, so you never know, you may be the next Linford Christie or Steve Backley.

The sports development team at Newham would like to offer the opportunity for youngsters aged 11-17 to compete and represent Newham at the 2009 London Youth Games. Our aim is to get as many young people from the borough involved in the games as possible. The games are open to anyone who wishes to be involved.

In addition, there are sports specifically for young people with disabilities. Competitions for people with disabilities include Athletics, Boccia, Football and more. These competitions are held across different age groups and levels of disability.

To represent Newham at the London Youth Games then you must be aged 11-17 and either live or go to school in Newham.
