Writer, broadcaster, poet and performer, Michael Rosen has come a long way since he wrote his first book Backbone in 1969. He is one of many award-winning authors performing at Stratford Circus this autumn. Hot off the heels of his Dundee tour, the children's Laureate will give an exclusive debut reading of his latest book, Dear Mother Goose at Stratford Circus, alongside reading his other works of poetry and stories.
‘Mother Goose has a good idea to stop Humpty Dumpty falling off the wall- and she helps lots of his friends too. Agony aunt Mother Goose helps Humpty Dumpty conquer his fear of falling and Little Miss Muffet deal with an over-friendly spider as well as helping a whole host of other much-loved characters.' Dear Mother Goose is a charming lift-the-lap book. With its witty, joky letters, it's a nursery rhyme book with a twist from an award-winning author and illustrator, Nick Sharratt.
Born on 7 May 1946 in Middlesex, Michael Rosen grew up wanting to be a doctor. After finishing at Watford Boys Grammar, he got into Middlesex Hospital Medical School. After realising the school wasn't for him, he successfully applied for a place at Oxford University, where he continued medical studies, only to realise his heart wasn't in it. He transferred to English language and literature, and in his five years at Oxford University, he was able to focus on his theatre work.
From 1976 to this day Michael Rosen has done a mix of writing, performing, teaching, lecturing, and performing on radio and TV. He performs his shows at schools and arts festivals and centres, teaches at London Metropolitan University, reviews books and writes articles for The Guardian, London.
