Olympic and Paralympic Heroes Parade

At 11am on Thursday 16 October 2008, London welcomes our Olympic and Paralympic Heroes with a parade through the city to celebrate the country's biggest medal haul in a century.

Olympic and Paralympic heroes parade, 11am, 16 October 2008, London

Beijing delivered an outstanding Olympic and Paralympics Games, before passing the baton over to London. Newham local Christine Ohuruogu will be one of the heroes showing off her Olympic 400m gold medal

All the athletes who went to Beijing have been invited to attend the parade, and some 500 are due to take part in this special event, giving Londoners a unique opportunity to see their sporting heroes.

Our Olympic athletes won 47 medals including 19 gold, 13 silver and 15 bronzes to come fourth in the table. While our Paralympians did even better, second only to China, with 102 medals - 42 gold, 29 silver and 31 bronzes. That's an amazing 149 medals in total, so let's give them the reception they deserve!
