On 24 August 2008 the Beijing Olympic Games came to a close. The eyes of the world are now on London - and Newham - as hosts of the next summer Olympic Games. To mark the occasion films have been produced starring Newham people performing Olympic-inspired feats and reflecting on their dreams and ambitions for 2012.
Representatives of Newham Council attended Remembrance Sunday services and laid wreaths at war memorials across the borough in honour of those who have died in conflict.

For the third year the Jack Petchey foundation is donating £10 towards study support provision to every secondary student in Newham totalling £193,100. The funding is managed by Learning Community Services and is given out to schools to run quality study support provision helping to raise standards in attainment and the development of positive attitudes towards learning and school.

New plans have been unveiled for the London 2012 Olympic Park. They will combine centuries of British park design with ground-breaking green technology to create a 21st Century park.

Attorney General Baroness Scotland met with Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, who took her on a tour of the Diamond Initiative Team Building where she met with officers involved in the pilot.
