On 24 August 2008 the Beijing Olympic Games came to a close. The eyes of the world are now on London - and Newham - as hosts of the next summer Olympic Games. To mark the occasion films have been produced starring Newham people performing Olympic-inspired feats and reflecting on their dreams and ambitions for 2012.
Mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales today offered warm congratulations to Stratford athlete Christine Ohuruogu following her 400 metres gold medal winning performance at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Three students living within Newham will receive long-term mentoring from London City Airport's management team. The students were selected through the airport's University Prize Scheme which aims to increase management capacity in the London Borough of Newham.

Young people from across Newham will soon be representing London in a national challenge to show the UK what it means to come from the capital as part of the Portrait of a Nation campaign run by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Liverpool Capital of Culture.
